Junior Jakob Harken, Perk Valley Basketball’s newest edition, is a 6 ‘2 guard dominating the PAC this year.
Just a year ago, Harken was playing for Pope John Paul II. He moved from PV to PJP during his freshman year and returned this year as a junior.
“I left [PV] because I thought it would be the better option, but it ended up not working for me. I moved back because I felt like I fit in the system here, and it’s the best place for me,” Harken said.
Despite the pressure of being thrown right into the action his first year back as a junior, the new shooting guard is thriving this year at PV, averaging 12.5 points per game.
“No, I don’t feel pressured. I’m confident in myself and excited for the rest of the season,” Harken said.
The Vikings are off to a 4-1 start and recently took down Cardinal O’Hara HS who are ranked 5th in the PCL at the start of the season.
There’s one distinguishing attribute among all PV athletes that truly makes them Vikings: the will and motivation to beat Spring-Ford. Harken, who shares this unmitigated drive, will fit in seamlessly at PV.
“It’s my first year really experiencing the rivalry, and I can’t wait to play them,” Harken said.
Harken has proven himself to be a crucial part of the team, further affirming that he made the right decision to return to PV.
