As we approach the end of the school year, the Perkiomen Valley class of 2019 will vote for their class officers on Friday, May 27.
Current Vice President Connor Letterio says about this school year, “There were many good fundraisers that raised tons of money. They included the night at Panera Bread and the t-shirts. We also had good, helpful homeroom reps. But if it wasn’t for the good turnouts of the class, we wouldn’t have raised the money we did.”
Letterio also shared that there were some really good ideas that did not happen. These were some like class of 2019 sunglasses. In a poll, six out of seven freshmen wanted the sunglasses. Also, many students said they want a new t-shirt design for the next few years to come.
Letterio says some things that could make better for next year is to plan out fundraisers so there is proper advertising and ultimately getting a better turnout. Also, he feels as if better/different places were used for the fundraisers, there could be much more money raised.
Plans for the upcoming election are mainly the same as last year with some small changes.
There are currently four candidates for class president. Gianna Ciliberto is re-running for class president. Connor Letterio, current Vice President of the freshman class, is announcing he is running as Ciliberto’s running opponent in the upcoming election this year. Connor Brandon and Prem Ganesh are also running, after running last year for the position as well.
No candidate has turned in a class officer petition for the vice president position. This position will be empty.
Three people are running for class treasurer. Connor Donovan is re-running for class treasurer. Bennett Martinko is running again this year, after running last year for the same position. The third candidate’s name was not readily available to the Voice.
No candidate has turned in a class officer petition for the secretary position. This position will be empty.
All students are encouraged to cast their vote for the upcoming elections. But, as advised by many teachers, to choose the candidate carefully. Most students feel that this past year was a popularity contest and that this upcoming year students say that plan to vote for the candidate that shows their utmost devotion and concentration on the job.
